There was a time when a 1.44 MB Floppy drive seemed like it was storage enough to store practically anything. As time passes, systems become more complex, and files grow dramatically in size, it becomes more and more important to try to save some space.
File compression utilities help in this area, taking a one or several files and storing in a simple "package", and compacting it.
WinAce is a compression utility that handles not only its own .ACE file, but it also supports most of the compression formats used today, such as .RAR, .ZIP, .ARJ., .LHA, .GZip, .CAB, .TAR, .JAR, .ISO and more.
WinAce provides many features to help the user store files. On the first use after its installation, you can select the language desired (English / Deutsch). It has different levels of compression (from Maximum to just Storing). Also, an interesting feature is that you can split a big file in smaller pieces. Let's say you're trying to e-mail a 50MB file, but you can only upload attachments of 10MB per e-mail, you can split the file in 5 x 10MB files, or in any file size you choose, it can even be auto-detected from a storage unit.
